NEW DOCUMENTARIES BEING TELEVISED ON WNYE CHANNEL 25

Under the title, Cyprus Ancient Monuments, starting on Sunday, March 3, 2024 and every Sunday through May 15, 2024, CYPRECO is televising on WNYE Channel 25 three new documentaries as part of its ongoing mission of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Cyprus for the benefit of Greek and Greek Cypriot Americans and of all New Yorkers.

The documentaries will be shown within the weekly broadcasts of AKTINA TV broadcasting every Sunday from 6pm to 7pm on Channel 25. Each documentary will be presented as a series in 15-minute increments with an approximate show time 6:10pm every Sunday during the weekly TV Series, Cyprus Its History and Culture Through The Ages. All documentaries include English sub-titles and close captioning for the hearing impaired.

In the documentary, The Straw Mat of Kapouti, viewers will enjoy and familiarize themselves with the traditional folk craft of making the famous straw mats in the Cypriot village of Kapouti. Supported with interviews from elder Cypriots who are involved in this craft and who are committed on passing the secrets of this craft to the new generations, the film also documents the entire process of making the straw mats starting from the collection of the raw materials and ending with the making of these products. The folk art of making the straw mats of Kapouti is included in the national catalog of intangible cultural heritage since 2015.

Touching upon the Architecture of Cyprus
is the second documentary which examines in depth and records the centuries-old art of working the stone and porolith in the creation of architectural cultural monuments, temples and structures on the island of Cyprus.

The third documentary is entitled, Troodos…and the birth of Cyprus. Troodos, is the most important mountain range of Cyprus. Its unique characteristics combined with its wealth of mineral and water resources have created an excellent habitat for the people of Cyprus and the basis for the ten thousand years-long history of art and civilization on the island. The genesis of Troodos and of Cyprus constitutes a miracle of nature geosciences, history and myth. The specific features of the island that formed, such as the impressive relief, the diversity of micro-climates, the abundant and diverse flora and the sea around, made it synonymous with the natural beauty and fertility.
